Truck driver and motor carriers alike would face stiffer penalties for violation of out-of-service orders under a New Jersey bill, A. 4282, that has been advanced to the full New Jersey Assembly by the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee. Out-of-service violations would bring drivers $2,500 fines, with repeat offenders subject to $5,000 fines and possibly as many as 90 days in jail, while the maximum fine for motor carrier firms would rise to $25,000 from the current $11,000.
